Amanda Brugel
Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island, which is known as West Island. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of communities. People who have never known about it may think it is a separate, west-facing island. Amanda Brugel was born there however her stay was not long in the city. Brugel grew on Courtice just outside Oshawa within Ontario. Her early ambition was to become a dancer, but a growth spurt resulted in her outgrowing her dance partner. In an article from the Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. Once I was bigger than my male counterpart then I slowed down. A lot of former dancers go on to acting, and in Brugel's case it was the nudge of the drama instructor at her high school who led her in the right direction. She was a teacher at the time who advised her to pursue a role for the school's annual production. The audition was successful and she was chosen in the role of Anne of Green Gables. The show led her to receive the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000, she received her Master of Fine Arts at York University. Since then, Brugel's been in over 60 productions both smaller and large. One of the most memorable was the time she was cast as Rita on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor on the show in the season 1 and was only seen occasionally.
